The eighth season of “The Walking Dead” opens in just two short weeks, and as a “Deader,” I am pumped. I admit that until a few years ago, the idea of a zombie apocalypse show getting my attention was highly unlikely, but I succumbed to the lure of the genius of many of the actors on “The Walking Dead.”
From the moment viewers were introduced to the bat-wielding badass maniac known as “Negan,” played by actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, I became intrigued by the actor’s ability to pitch the perfect lines and literally grab his audience with unexpected humor amidst stark brutality. His delivery of those one-liners is flawless and classic. I confess that I turned my head to the gore. But from the aspect of the acting, when I hear “America’s got talent,” my thoughts race to Morgan.
And from all reports Morgan is now being portrayed by some in Hollywood as a villain in real life as well. True to his television character, Jeffrey Dean Morgan displays that kiss-my-butt attitude off stage as well as on. He is the Hollywood bad boy in real life, but this is one bad boy that I admire.
A picture of Morgan wearing a Blue Lives Matter shirt went viral, and well, you know, that picture sort of set off the nut jobs on the Left. They responded with comments and tweets such as, “RIP” Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He ain’t dead, I just wish he was after that Blue Live Matter post,” “oh great, now I gotta cancel Jeffrey Dean Morgan and every other cast member of twd who like his last Instagram post,” and “I have been betrayed quite a few times in my life but Jeffrey dean morgan wearing a blue lives matter shirt might top the list.” Poor baby.
But my favorite was from Prank Sinatra who tweeted this, “sincerely one of the worst things to ever happen to me. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a Blue Lives Matter advocate.” Yeah, imagine that, snowflake.
What I can’t imagine is that there are weaklings like “Prank Sinatra” that could find Morgan’s respect for the men and women in blue to be life-changing. No sweat over flesh-eating zombies when we’ve got actual living people like “Prank Sinatra” living amongst us. People like Prank are the real horrors.
Morgan’s response was typical Negan, and he posted, “Dear assholes. Blue Lives do matter. Can’t believe I need to explain to you this fact. All lives matter. All of em. This shirt was made in response to the murder of the GOOD cops in NY, both that had immigrated to the US, and took an oath to protect and serve. This shirt was given to me at a convention by a woman whose son was shot during what was a routine traffic stop. He was black. I’m so tired of mean people. People who wake up in the morning, and I think, just sit behind the safety of their computers..and start s**t…..anonymously. Grow the f*** up. The world has enough horrible things going on right now without your petty bulls**t. Speaking of cops, I’d like to commend those in blue who saved countless in Vegas. Those first responders saved hundreds…..if not thousands. And you trolls…..go crawl under the rock from which you came. GOOD PEOPLE MATTER! You? Don’t!”
Morgan has since deleted the post writing that the sentiment was sincere, but that it was being taken out of context. In other words, “The Walking Dead” management’s undoubted message to Dean, “GET THAT DAMN POST OFF YOUR PAGE. WE’VE GOT A NEW SEASON TO PROMOTE!”
Unlike the NFL players, Jeffrey Dean Morgan does understand that his employers must remain apolitical when it comes to the buck. It’s a hard lesson for the NFL players to accept. Obviously, Morgan is a much smarter man.
Rumors have it that the new season of TWD is going to be the most intense season yet. And naturally, Negan will be the focus of the drama.
But it’ going to be a little bit harder for me to cheer against this not-so-unlovable villain. I like the actor, and I find his character just a tad bit charming except when he’s disemboweling someone. What can I say? Both Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Negan have “guts.”
